As we said yesterday, Genda Sega Entertainment announced yesterday the closing next September of the mythical Sega Ikebukuro Gigo room after 28 years of activity. Contrary to the recent closure of other rooms, such as the famous Sega Akihabara 2 a year ago, this end of activity is not linked to the crisis caused by the Cvid-19 pandemic but at a non-renewed lease by the owner of the walls.
Despite this particular case, the general situation pushed a Belgian Internet user to stop the president of Genda Sega Entertainment, Nao Kataoka, on Twitter. The latter has indeed asked him if not renewing the Sega halls leases was now part of his company's strategy to deal with the pandemic crisis. What Nao Kataoka responded by reassuring:
After the crisis, I firmly believe that the arcade's revenues will come back to their pre-first level. I do not think at all to close rooms. I hope to prolong the contracts when they expire. But in this particular case, we could not extend it because of the plans of the owner of the premises. I like this sector.
Hold, but how long?
Except in exceptional circumstances like the one mentioned below, Genda Sega Entertainment does not intend to close other rooms. In any case not officially. The Westerners who intend to return to Japan as soon as the Nippon government will again open its borders will certainly be able to visit some of the famous Sega rooms that have not yet closed. If Japan leaves one day come back the tourists of course ...
As explained earlier, Sega Sammy, at the end of last year, rid of its arcade manager activity (strongly affected by the Pandemic of Covid-19) selling 85% of Sega Entertainment shares In Genda Inc. A new company, called Genda Sega Entertainment was born from this sale and it is the latter that now exploits all Sega Japanese rooms. The latter who has retained branding Sega, things have at first sight not changed for Lambdas visitors.
What do you say about statements by Nao Kataoka? Do you trust him? Do you believe that other famous rooms will close in the coming months? Do you intend to go to Japan when the country will reopen its borders? Give us your opinion in the comments below.
