Recently, a rumor circulated that Microsoft expressed interest in Playtonic Games. The studio consists mostly of former members of Rare and has published two games in the US Yooka-Laylee series (including the last Yooka-Laylee and The Impossible Lair). Apparently, Microsoft wanted to acquire the studio to create a new Banjo-Kazooie title.
Playtonic Games has published a statement on Twitter, which is denied that work on a new version banjo-Kazooie. It was also found that it remains independent. Although the developer would like to "work again with the bear and bird," it said, "This ball was not in our field."
It's certainly a shame, but Playtonic has a lot to offer. Besides, if Microsoft says it seriously to revive banjo-kazooie franchise, why should not it use its own resources like rare? It is not about studios like Double Fine Productions, which are currently under the Xbox banner and could create a completely new feature that is exclusive.
At the moment we just have to be satisfied with that Banjo-Kazooie are playable Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
