Last year, Epic Games implemented a direct payment system in fortnite on mobile, something that violated the terms and conditions for Apple developers. This gave rise to the exit of Battle Royale of IOS devices, and a long legal confrontation between these two companies. Now, after months of waiting, a result has come to be considered as a victory for Apple and Epic Games.
Today, September 10, Judge González-Rogers decided that Apple is free to control the payment system of his own platform , since Epic could not present enough evidence that this company has a monopoly as defined by laws.
However, the judge also decided that Apple can not block developers who link alternative payment methods from within applications , since this is an anti-competitive behavior according to state law. This was what was said about it:
[Apple is] permanently restricted to prohibit developers to include in their applications and their metadata buttons, external links or other call calls that direct customers to purchase mechanisms, as well as the purchase in application and communication With customers through points of contact voluntarily obtained from customers through the account record within the application .
These decisions will come into force as of December 9. At the moment none of the companies has commented something about it. Although Epic Games could continue presenting evidence against Apple, It seems that the result came to a midpoint that partially favors companies.
Now we can only wait and see if fortnite will finally return to iOS devices with a series of changes that reflect the judge's decision. On related topics, it seems that Naruto will join this Battle Royale in its next season.
